My Farm Box: Farm Fresh to You
Local seasonal produce in the SF Bay Area
My Story
I’m kind of a carnivore, but also I hate going to grocery stores to get fruit and whatnot. In my quest to have all my food delivered and thereby avoid a disappointing retail experience, I started getting produce shipped direct from the farm.
You customize your order each week. The produce is always organic and fresh, and tastes amazing.
How I Learned About It
A girlfriend of mine used to get a farm box weekly. She adored her box, but I thought it seemed like a hassle. I didn’t think it would work for me as I primarily buy fruit for myself and not a lot of veggies. But I found that you can easily buy $30 of fruit and still get your box if that’s all you want.
And I was getting meat and eggs direct so it seemed like the way to go. Goodbye grocery stores that tried to deny people food during Covid!
How I Use It
What I order:
Blueberries
Strawberries
Cosmic Crisp apples
Kiwis
Nantes carrots
Asparagus
Yellow onions or shallots
Garlic, ginger, rosemary, mint, etc.
Harmless Harvest coconut water
Elderberry syrup for mixing
The trick is, you need to be home to get your box—especially if it’s hot outside. For me, it arrives late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning. If I go to bed late I can sometimes catch the box when it arrives. But I want to be sure to rescue it Thursday morning so I can get it into my fridge ASAP. Otherwise, make sure to skip that week’s order by Monday if you can’t rescue it!
